A play for the representation of a minority language

October 2024 - April 2025

Galician is in danger of extinction

Galician is the Oficial language in the Spanish region of Galicia, alongside with Spanish. While for centuries Galician was the most spoken language in Galicia, in the past decades it has experimented a great decrease in young speakers and, last year, Spanish dethroned Galician as the most popular language in the region.

Fighting for linguistic normalisation

To combat the shortage of speakers, it is necessary to create initiatives that promote the use of Galician in everyday situations and raise the prestige of its use.

For this reason, the Galician community at Yale decided to bring our culture to campus activities, thereby increasing the popularity of Galician. This is how A Life Reenactment was born.

The first Galician Play at Yale!

We received the Creative and Performing Arts Award to fund our play.

We design the posters, advertised it all around campus, booked a theatre and, after months of rehearsal…

We became the first play at Yale to use Galician as a main language.

We connected +100 students with our culture and language.

The most prestigious newspaper in Galicia covered our story, making an impact back home and in America.
